Questions related to Dinner Events

1. How many PDUs can I claim for a Dinner Event?

PMI-VI Dinner Event will earn a maximum of 2 PDUs. A PDU is a measure of time spent in a structured learning activity.

The rule for claiming PDUs is 1 PDU can be claimed for each (prorated) hour of activity related to your professional development as a project manager. Our Dinner Events provide two sources of PDUs:

  1. The speaker who typically talks for one hour. Therefore, count 1 PDU. If you can only stay for half of the presentation you would only count a 0.5 PDU.
  2. Interacting professionally with other project managers. We typically start our gatherings 30 minutes before the official start of the meeting which provides valuable time for networking. In addition, you may conduct more interaction with other PMPs while sharing the meal. Therefore, you may claim up to 1 more PDU for time spent in this way.

Reporting of PDUs earned through Dinner Event is done on the honour system. It is up to each member to determine exactly how much time they spend during dinner in activities that would be considered professional development. Once again, this would be based on the length of the presentation and the amount of time in interaction with other people at the event - up to a maximum of 2 PDUs per Dinner Event.

2. How do I report PDUs for a Chapter Dinner Event?

For instructions on claiming PDUs for a dinner event, please refer to the Reporting PDUs for a Dinner Event Tutorial.

General PDU related question

1. Does PMI-VI submit PDU claims for its members, or is it the members' responsibility?

At this time it is the members’ responsibility to submit PDU claims for events they attend. PMI-VI is only responsible for submitting the course/event and obtaining approval from PMI-HQ for granting PDU’s for events that fall under Category 3 classification, and having it listed on the PMI site.

2. What do I need to retain to prove that I attended an event?

For audit purposes, you need to keep a record of events attended, preferably tracked in a spreadsheet format, including a description of each of the events (see the Past Events Archive section for details on various events organized by the PMI-VI Chapter). You also need to keep the receipts provided to you by PMI-VI for each event, including dinner meeting events.

3. When should I report my PDU activities?

PMPs are responsible for reporting all of their professional development activities, ideally as they occur.

4. Should I save up all my claims and do it all at once, or as I receive them?

It is up to you. However, we suggest that you submit your claims as you earn them.

5. How do I submit a PDU claim?

PMPs have the option to directly report their PDUs online. Please visit the CCR Reporting Forms area for access to this online option.

In cases when online reporting is not possible, you should make copies of the CCR Activity Reporting Form located on the CCR Reporting Forms page, enter the required information, and mail or fax the completed form to the PMI Records office (see address on form).

You can also consult the Tips for Reporting your PDUs document. The steps are summarized at the bottom of the first page.

6. How quickly do events get posted on PMI HQ for claiming PDUs?

Expect to see the events posted approximately two weeks after the date of the event.

7. Who can I talk to if I have further questions on the PDU process?

It is best to send your questions to www.pmi.org or to the PMI-VI Director of Membership.

8. How are PDUs tracked for PMI-VI events?

Receipts are easily printed upon purchasing your ticket on Eventbrite. The Chapter keeps a record of attendance at events only as back up, in case the claim is ever audited. We urge you to make use of the automated system and remind you that reporting is the responsibility of the member.

9. How can I find out details about a past PMI-VI event?

The archive of the various events organized by the PMI-VI Chapter are located on the Past Events Archive section.

10. Can I claim PDUs for activities performed before I got my certification?

If you have not yet achieved your PMP, you can not accumulate PDUs for later. The PDU process only applies to maintaining your professional certification.

Be sure to differentiate between training credits and PDUs.

11. Are PDUs required to renew my CAPM credential?

No. The CAPM credential is renewed by retaking the CAPM examination which includes the updates to the PMBOK Guide that have occurred over the last five years.
